ReWork Howard Jones

Welcome!
If you are reading this post it is without a doubt because you are interested in knowing more about the ‘ReWork Howard Jones’ campaign.

ReWork Howard Jones is an online community project by electronic music pioneer, Howard Jones.

The ReWork project will give music producers, both rising stars and old hands alike, the chance to remix / recreate / ReWork some of Howard Jones’ finest records. The project launches on April 18th with the release of remix parts for ‘Automaton’, a track taken from his 1985 platinum selling album, ‘Dream Into Action’. Beyond April 18th, Howard and the team will continue to release ‘sets’ of remix parts for a number of past classics; tracks picked from a music repertoire spanning in-excess of 25 years.

Interested parties need not toil in vein. Whist the motivation of remixing an original synth-pop icon might be enough for many, Howard and the team will be paying special attention to the contributors that attract both their ear and the attention of the community peers. With copyrights returned and a burgeoning list of A-list studio hacks interested in reworking Howard, a new album concept has been born; details of which are for another day. What can be confirmed is that the overall ‘winner(s)’, if you like, will become part of said album concept.

If you are interested in getting involved, all ReWork Howard Jones news, announcements updates, and communications, including the release of new audio parts, can be discovered via the offical blog and content hub, http://www.reworkhowardjones.info, first; so we recommend you visit now and on a regular basis to be sure not to miss a trick!

Thanks for reading, have fun!

This sounds like a fascinating project, but unfortunately I'm no technical wizard as far as making music or even attempting to remix a track is concerned. Though it would interest me to hear the individual multi-track elements that went together to make some of Howard's classic tracks.

It will definitely be interesting to hear what people do with these tracks - whether they try to create an old style 80's remix like some of Howard's early 12" remixes, or whether it's given a modern interpretation (or even one of those not-so-good mixes where you can't tell what song has been remixed. ie. It sounds like a completely different track!)

Wouldn`t it be a great idea to put the best remixes into an official cd release?

I'm with daneilhunt on this one. I'd love to get my own mix of this song out for others to enjoy... but the tech is way over my head. However, I'm loving some of the mixes that are popping up on the SoundCloud site! Automaton can now be heard as either pop, rock, chillout or just plain weird versions. Bring on R&B, orchestral and country and western!
It's wonderful the way that peoples' imaginations work and how they can change your perception of a song. Am really looking forward to an avalanche of 're-imaginings'.

Hello, I am from germany and I downloaded the 2 songs that has been given for remix so far. It seems like there is not much discussion going on here - or did I miss something or did´t find it? This is sad and I hope this won´t be cancelled due to little intrerest.
By the way, I found this accidentially only because I was remembering some music that I heard when I still had all my hair. Maybe it needs some more advertising?
However, I found one mix on youtube.
And now I am on it myself. Let´s see what I can do with that :D
