I'm curious as to what the remastering process involves as someone who (clearly) knows little about it! Probably for Robbie if you're reading and have time to answer.
Do you get a master tape with (24?) unmixed raw tracks and start again from scratch making a 2-track stereo mix from the 24 tracks?
If so, do you find anything interesting on the master tapes, tracks which were were completely mixed out of the final cut for example?
Is there really just one master tape or are there multiple copies? How is it preserved?
Does the master tape contain a digital or analogue copy of the music (particularly for the later albums, analogue for the early ones I guess)?
If you start with an analogue tape do you take it all into the digital domain before starting any remastering?
First box set sounds amazing. I may be in the minority but it's Dream Into Action which blows me away most. Second box on order.
Thanks!
John.

These are some interesting questions
Robbie -I see you've commented briefly about the remasters on another thread. Would you mind commenting on the process?
If so, I am also curious regarding your collaboration process with Howard specifically on these new sets. Do you submit final products for review, or do you request input along the way if something stands out as unusual? I understand every producer has a different relationship with every artist, but you and Howard work well together yet these are some of his 25 year old babies.
Thanks for your answer...
BTW - Both sets are amazing, but this second one really blew me away. After the novelty wears off I'll eventually go back to give the first one a fresh listen. I may have taken your input slightly for granted the first time around.
